So what's hot so far this year?

So far the releases feature a lot of Presidential issues due to the popularity of Barack Obama. In fact, it has gotten so big that Topps expanded their always popular Heritage series to include a new set this year called 2009 Topps American Heritage.

The set features all kinds of American history as you may have guessed already by the name with the likes of Martin Luther King, numerous presidents, Joe Namath and more. The best seller out of the gate is card #148 of Barack Obama.

As with other Heritage sets, the chase cards are the usual "Chrome" parallels and the autographs and memorabilia cards. The big money singles feature cut signatures featuring up to four signatures in one card. Many of these are fetching several thousand when sold and some of the combinations are unusual...I saw a Richard Nixon and baseball Hall of Famer, Jimmie Foxx.

2009 Topps Heritage baseball and 2009 SPX have been the recent baseball releases that are selling well considering the economy at the moment. Baseball Heritage is based on 1960 Topps this year and all of the All star cards are short printed. The Manny Ramirez pictured here will very likely be his final card as a member of the Boston Red Sox. His base card features him with the Dodgers and that is going to continue with new releases for awhile...well until he goes back to Cleveland, LOL. Upper Deck hockey released a 2nd series, which seems to be doing faily well also.

I will write more of these as the year goes on, but I thought I would start with this for the new ksgsportsblog...stay tuned.
